as i sit here and ponder back to the last year of my life, one saying comes to mind... "if god brings you to it, he'll bring you through it"
2011 was an interesting year for me. it shaped me, changed me, made me mad as hell then brought me to some wonderful places, pretty much all at once! but for that i am grateful! (BIG time)
now here we are, just a day away from another year ending and another beginning. normally, i'd just be excited to gather with family and friends and welcome the new year with good food and great spirits! this year i'm feeling quite different. when you reflect back on all the years past and all those "resolutions" you promised you would keep, so often that ends in disappointment or failure! always has bothered me so much! i know damn well, i have the will power and i could keep on any task i set myself too - but sometimes in the middle of this "unessecarily busy" life we lead, we lose track.
last year, i promised myself that i would stick with my resolution, come hell or high water! then i said, i really had to do it this time and if i made it something so off the charts - i'd have no reason to hate it, be bored with it and quit by february 1st! it was different and it was creative. for those of you who don't know, my resolution last year was to start this blog....
nearly 20 articles
65 facebook fans
& 1 year later - i'd call this a damn good labor of love.
(now these numbers could be higher, and sure i want them to be but beggars can't be choosy!)
so with my mini success here, i got to thinking did i really even make a resolution? i mean ultimately, i had said this was what i would do, and i did it - for a lot longer then i even thought i would. this resolution was way more then that however, it's given me an outlet.
i've expanded my writing, my outlook and now i'm looking into very awesome business ventures - all because i placed what i remember being, just "a silly bet with myself".
this was now my thing! people love it, ask about it and are excited for the next article i'll post. it's an honor and a privelge because to me it was just "a little something" where i wanted to share my great ideas and bits of information. i never anticipated it would now be shaping my life in 2012... (that announcement, you'll have to wait for!)
now back to the real reason we are here... a challenge.
it is my proposal to you is, this new year do not make a resolution with yourself. make a solution. promise that you can do just one thing this year that will change your outlook, make your future brighter. do something so out of the ordinary that it doesn't only shock the people in your life, but yourself. put yourself out there, get a little vulnerable and try something new and different!
now please remember, this isn't bad, it isn't anything until you try it! it could be so much more then eating 6 more vegetables a day, drinking more water and quitting smoking. those are all great things, beneficial in the long run too, of course. but this year make a solution... give in to the fear of the unknown, so maybe you'll start a cupcake making business, become a tutor, run a marathon or volunteer more! trying it out, is to believe in yourself! i say, commit to this challenge of a dream or a passion and make it the one major thing you focus on for the next year and if you do it right, YEARS to come!
i am awfully glad i did & even happier to have shared it with all of you!
thank you for your support, keep spreading the secrets <3

survival of the fittest...
well here we are, christmas eve eve and if your anything like me - you have some last minute shopping, wrapping & baking to do. but if you're not doing any of those things, help a pal out!
( if you know my number, i pay well & i can use all the help i can get! )
with all the hustle and bustle we tend to forget what we really are in store for come "gathering time". the holidays bring about this family reunion vibe and sadly it can be a hindrance on the celebrations! here's how to curb your scrooge'isms and be merry instead!
yuck, don't like the food?
how could you - i don't do seafood personally. and it's italian tradition to eat 7 fishes on christmas eve! my family is gracious enough to offer pasta and chicken in place of that but some other houses may not be so kind.... so EAT before you go to any function. even if its a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. keep yourself full, you'll be less cranky that way too!
and another reason to keep yourself full, is if you plan to drink...
don't be a LUSH!
sure a glass or two is fine and dandy but the last thing any family function needs is you teaching your cousins beer pong, or telling them where the gifts really came from! be mindful of your slurring tongue. if you're not driving and plan to be tipsy, drink a water in between every cocktail, we don't need puke on the presents!
be our guest.
...well our helpful, clean up after yourself, make yourself at home but never come into my home empty handed - guest! sure homemade is better, but the thought will always count! do show up with at least a dessert or bottle of wine for the hostess. and yes, even if they tell you not to bring something! if there are children, be the cool cousin - head to the dollar store, get a bunch of coloring books and some crayons and let them go crazy!
lets play 20 questions.
the next scenario is going to happen, and i hate to say i saved the best for last but if needed - read this then practice your speech in the car on the way there!
in an inquisitive, shrilling but caring voice - either one of your aunts or your grandma are bound to ask you these following questions:
"are you still with that boyfriend of yours / are you engaged yet" / "you looked like you gained weight"/ "when are ya gonna have a baby" / "did ya get that damn promotion yet"
LISTEN UP! all of the answers to the above will be - quick, painless, basic AND answered with a smile. the more information and details the deeper the hole! so remember the golden rule, keep it simple!
i come from a very big family ( parents are divorced, moms remarried and all 3 parents come from a family of 5 kids +) however i am really looking forward to the reunion, its been too long that i've seen my loved ones! but the older i get the more stress i begin to feel at these sorts of events! all the details and did i forget somethings just flutter my head! quite franly i need to be at the mall RIGHT NOW doing more of my last minutes, ahh just another part of the holiday survival kit! maybe this wont be the case for you, BUT it could be. so if that is the case, stay strong and avoid eye contact on the tough questions!
wishing you all a wonderful and happy holiday with your loved ones! :) . <3
PS. thank you for all the love and support on this blog, i'm gracious beyond words.
soon we'll be coming up on one year and will be making a very big announcement and hoping to spread the "good word" like wild fire! <3

headlines (aptly titled...)
at the beginning of the month i proposed an idea and suggested we make this month a "november to remember". just a time to go and do you - to mainly spend some time reflecting upon YOU - before the hustle and bustle of the holiday season comes rolling in. so often i think that we rush around too much on the day to day and never really have that 5 minutes for "me time".
i learned a very valuable lesson this past month, something about myself - that at the moment i was really pissed off to learn. but with time , (yes even still to this very moment) i am beyond grateful to have learned. i guess having been dealt some crappy cards, you just play the game and you see where it takes you: maybe you win, maybe you lose, OR maybe you end up in a chinese restaurant! WTF?! yeah i know what you're thinking! please allow me to explain... i know from personal experience that every day has a headline. something is always happening, and somethings are even earth shattering. however i'm grace under fire, taking ALL things in stride - me and these so called "headlines" took out against the world. i kept having these absurd moments of quiet reflection, conversation and sheer panic on the down low. then one day reality hit me, HARD!
so there i was, during my "november to remember" doing what i told everyone else to do! spent some time reflecting! then i uncovered my mysteries, dug a little deeper and i learned that, (ugh deep breaths.... ) i have - high expectations. hmm, some of you may think that isn't a bad thing, some of you may think it is a terrible thing. let me be the first to say it is DAMN well, a GREAT THING!
have you ever heard the story of the girl who went into the chinese restaurant and begged, bitched and moaned, screamed for the manager asking for spaghetti and meatballs? well obviously, we know she didn't get that. she has 2 options, she can leave and go to the italian place down the street and get what she wants or she can stay there, and learn to like lo-mein. either way the decision is hers, she has to decide... and when making choices in this manner, in the heat of the moment so often it can lead to a valuable lesson. you learn a lot about yourself when pitted with choices.
let me say that i am the girl in the chinese restaurant - or at least i was until i learned about my HIGH EXPECTATIONS... i didn't want either dish, so what did that say about me. what is wrong with me, i want too much and i want unattainable or impossible things?! since when in life is striving for something BAD? oh my god, i thought, i'm doomed and i'll have to re route my patterns, change my ways blah blah blah! and that couldn't be farther from the truth. AND THANK YOU BABY JESUS! it isn't bad and it isn't good, IT JUST IS. its what makes being "me" unique. it is my headline, that i uncovered during my "november to remember" that i will carry with me for the rest of my life. and i'll continue to explore it. maybe now with my explanations for those mystery's, life will be smoother and those absurd moments of quiet reflection will not be left in panic!
my message started out as a small effort just to give a gal some extra time for herself, even if none of you ever participated in "november to remember" maybe you can take a part of my story with you... uncover your own expectations now and see how they reflect your everyday life. make your own headlines! *and for the record - i left the chinese place, and i went out into the parking lot and started my own fun, because that's just ME. and would you expect anything less?!;)

hope grows through the good fight
cancer is the ugliest word in the english language as far as i am concerned...
as sensitive and personal a topic cancer can be, i know we can all agree to support the cause. unfortunately some of us will know or do know of someone close to our hearts who have dealt with some form of this horrible diagnosis.
simply put this october, i hope you "felt your boobies" and have done anything in your power to create awareness to save the tatas <3

fashionistas assemble!
i’ve been tracking what’s really “in” this season – and a good thing to mention is a lot of your spring & summer accessories can travel over! hopefully your closet is packed with some signature pieces, that you are able to transform very easily (not only) from day to play, but seasonally as well. i know many of you have been itching for this upcoming season! however with this indian summer we've got going on in the north east it may be hard to transform! take it from me, its time to put away the beachy/summer gear! that’s right you heard me, retire the flip flops to the back of your closet!
during an elaborate 7 days of mbfw, we saw lots of different looks from many top designers. but some of the most notable trends seen can truly be present in the “average girls everyday life” and that is a major plus here at secrets!
trends from tips to toes:
trends from tips to toes:
the nude nail, a nod to the Dutchess Kate Middleton perhaps? brands like essie and opi will always be in stock, but don’t shy away of a cheaper drug store brand if you are a bit leery!
color me blind?! oh no bring it on. palettes of color were certainly packing a punch – yellows, bubble gum pinks, lavender and tangerine just to name a few! a good way to incorporate any of those colors into your fall wardrobe is pairing it with a dark blazer and jeans.
* please note my “golden rule” buy for essential purposes but also be able to re-use it!
* please note my “golden rule” buy for essential purposes but also be able to re-use it!
all the rage is fancy but free hair - a loose curl can never steer you wrong, but the fishtail braid is “IT”. some chic updo’s and small twists were seen also, giving a little nod to the 1920’s. stylists have gone pretty crazy in the past and not many runway looks can be seen in the office - so please do not attempt! ( YOU KNOW THE LOOKS I'M REFERRING TO) remember to keep it simple and effortless - you will always look your best that way.
eyes on every woman: not just for the cat walker any longer, make up for the everyday woman was seen in bobbi browns new "gem" the rose gold eye. and surprisingly from all the looks i saw it paired with its very easy to fall in love. another plus, is that it does look good on ALL eye colors and skin pigments. eyes are the first part of the face we notice - so this is a great trend to use to make your beauty POP.
missioni impossible: in roughly 6 hours, is the time that missioni sold out of target in new york city ! to say that i was speechless was an understatement, after all nyc is the mecca of fashion. however when i went to my local target, i found literally nothing – i shed a tear! not even so much as a headband was left. but dramatics aside, for those of you who did snag something off the shelves, you are lucky and maybe i'll win that bid for my e-bay missoni purchases!
…a dime a dozen: celebrities are not shy of endorsements and studies show that “society” is willing to show more of an interest in a product based upon what celebrities face is added onto the newest campaign. *personally i know from many girlfriends that lauren conrads line (kohls) has been tride and true for their wardrobes. and jessica simpsons line is always great for a good clutch and or pair of boots. HOWEVER, how do you feel when basically every singer, tv personality, actor and their mom – comes out with a clothing line. are you more apt to purchase their lines because you like their personal style? or is it all “just in a name”…
about the newbies on the block: jennifer lopez – personally i wasn’t IN LOVE with her line, a bit too much for the everyday ware, its very nice but overly flashy for me. a bit overly endorsed bunch, but the people loved most here at secrets are the KARDASHIANS! plain and simple, their line on qvc was fab, but their sears line has the potential to be most found in my closet! it is one of my favorites for this season! it is bananas, but rachel zoe is still ALL the rage and nothing she does can ever, in a million years be wrong. she's dressed the likes of all our favorite celebrities, how could she ever make us look bad! and she certainly did not disappoint. from her piperlime faves to her qvc line and her department store line - it is indeed, ALL GOOD. i like to think a major plus to her line and my love for it, is the double duty of getting to watch her show on bravo and really "being involved" not too often do you get that kinda inside peak! so in short - yes im a fan and yes im obsessed!
now ladies, here is your list i hope you use it wisely! you are just a 4 days away from rocking one of these trends this friday night, so which one will it be! ;)

bring it on!
i guess that internship in events and production was well worth my parents financing! because last week was insane! even harder then working with clients for a real job. but i kicked into high gear, ran around like crazy, helping plant the finishing touches on "the white party" ( thrown, of course by my fabulous mother!) it was quite the little adventure and sunday went off without a hitch! absolutely beautiful - pictures will follow ;)
however, i thought i’d take a little time to check in with you all and make sure you made the MOST of your 4 days! maybe a beach day or a bbq perhaps? or maybe you were at said "white party" i know the weather was iffy so if she did put a damper on your weekend then turn it up full blast this coming! who says you can't give it another whril! try to get a group together and head to your favorite spot, or even try something NEW! if its it local celebrate with some bottle service and get extra glam! anything goes, so make the best of it!
it really seems as though a lot of people look at labor day as DOOMS DAY! you really can’t forget there is so much the fall season has to offer! i mean hello, this isNEW YORK ! fear not friends, if your weary of what to do here’s just a little run down:
it really seems as though a lot of people look at labor day as DOOMS DAY! you really can’t forget there is so much the fall season has to offer! i mean hello, this is

i guess i got my swagger back.
ahh and we meet again! i know i've been gone for a while...
but i must admit, these last 2 months have been wonderful! to "regroup" was simply something i didn't know i need so badly and i couldn't be any more grateful for! personal time was something i didn't really remember. so an unexpected change in my life ended up being inspirational and of course a blast! it was summer of course ;)
what a whirlwind it has been - labor day is just days away and truly i can't believe it's here already. personally, i have always treated september as "the new year" i guess it's just that school mentality. but now, i like to think of it as a second chance, a new leaf and a time to START OVER, FRESH. i can't think of a better time for me to welcome myself and you back to secrets! and c'mon after a sweltering summer, who doesn't get a little excited for pumpkin spiced lattes and sweaters! i personally have always been one to get excited for the changes: trees, weather and clothes!
so without further delay - welcome back to secrets of the 3 s's! fall is my favorite time of year and there is so much to look forward to in the coming months. i hope you will stick around and enjoy it with me! <3

biology vs. buyology
extra: this blog is just as much for the ladies, as it is.... for the guys!
compulsive shopper? emotional shopper? it's on sale - i'm sure i'll find a use for it...
do any of these statements fit you to a T?! i would say that there are times in your life when you splurge. whether its needed or not - that is a matter of the heart, and the wallet! but did you ever feel like you were being roped in all the right or here we go, WRONG directions! so it probably isn't apart of our DNA but there is obviously, some logic/madness behind many decisions we make, the ads that catch our eye, even the route in which we take in our favorite stores.... and i'm not too sure how many of you know that!
personally, i don't know if there is a real science to "shopping" or our "interest". seeing as though i have an interest and an educational background in marketing - i can recognize the signs as a consumer! the ploys that are typically used are something i think even my 7 year old sister would notice! but if you really dig deeper; you may be able to uncover the "truth".
i'm no pro, however on matters of the brain and it's triggers this guy - martin lindstrom is! he conducted a 4 year long, neuromarketing study - i saw a segment with him on the today show a couple of months ago and since then i've kinda been swept away by his message. he mentions tid bits like - you'll buy more when you have a list ( BLOWN AWAY BY THAT - I LOVE LISTS! ) - he says, never to shop with the kids ( BELIEVE IT! ) - personal experience: my mother always says she spends an additional $60 - $70 dollars more if she takes any of us shopping with her! and staying "cool" at the last 5 minutes as you check out of the store - you rack up the most extras in counter items during this time! ( AND I AM SOOOO GUILTY OF THIS. )
i thought i'd share the good word with you! believe what you would like and read it if you are interested! i like the message and i clearly find it a bit fascinating... i sat there laughing and cringing all at the same time! and i'm watching my own patterns now more closely!
hope you enjoy it, and as always let me know your thoughts! : )

dear summer,
i don't know about you, but it is hard to believe we finally made it!
with very little transition at all, it appears.... summer is here!i know i have been in my own whirlwind... so much so, that i even forgot i wasn't keeping up with you. oops!
so, without further adieu - what have you all been up to? for me, may is my birthday month, then with mothers day, graduations, MORE birthdays and just life it turned out to be quite the crazy month. and i must admit; it is my self expressed "most expensive" month as well! so i'm sorry for leaving you hanging however i do have much to discuss!
i am in the process of doing a style poll - i asked a group of ladies to partake and i'm hoping to get a great turnout of responses!
its a different approach, but i'll be putting up the poll AND taking some of the questions and turning out some articles for the blog as well. if anyone is reading this and would like to get involved - please let me know! ASAP ; )
since i have been out of the loop i want to catch up with you -- but give as much dish as i can for the coming months! a big topic for this summer will be skin care - many of my friends know my mom " the dermatologist" and a huge aspect to all summer fun is skin safety! we're going to tackle the bronze vs. orange issue - as well as simple spf and tanning precautions. i've got some fashion tidbits for you - the do's and don'ts for your ideal summer wardrobe! and most importantly, my personal favorite a looooong over do conversation about "bravolebrities" the ones i love love love as well as as the ones i'm not "flipping out" for!

a match made in heaven
i don't know how i left this out but yesterday was the day that i would like to refer to as
"an act of god". say what you will - however i don't care. a woman and her footwear are a bond that very little shoe fanatics can understand. maybe this will touch some other peoples hearts, as much as it did MY OWN <3.
last couple of weeks i've been on the hunt for an "affordable" pair of said shoe. i've written about where to find them, but i am a really picky individual. * didn't want platform, didn't want sling back, didn't want open toe. went to marshalls, tj maxx, dsw, payless (YES!) & charlotte rouse (close call there).UNSUCCESSFUL and quite disappointing.
so as i said, "act of god" i went to kohls yesterday (the other heaven) something told me to look. and much to my surprise THEY WERE THERE! in size 6.5, 7, 9 and a 10 wat wahhhh :( the heart break continues. they were there and they were gorgeous.. and they didn't have my size! i walked away and just forgot about it but something kept telling me to scan the aisles and look some more until LIGHTBULB...
i checked the size of the DISPLAY SHOE, and.....

Y A H T Z E E !
i think you know how this story ends!
word on the street...
so word about town is, everyone is down in the dumps.
1. we’ve got the rangers and knicks literally ripping our hearts out and dancing all over em’. i know the playoffs are taking a huge toll on the men in my life.
2. we’ve got the ever so dreaded tax day that just passed and unless you’re getting any money back – well, your pissed!
3. that stupid tale of april showers, bringing may flowers. ah yah with a solid 2 days of rain under our belt, and apparently another week of it ahead... if it isn't the g'damn botanical gardens around here in may, i'm moving!
in short, i would go out on a limb here and say that everyone is a smidge up-tight.
here i was thinking that my spring trends update would cheer you all up and get everyone excited for SPRING.... epic fail huh?!
sadly i'm with you all - the only sun and warmth i've felt was in the tanning bed. however, i spent the morning getting pampered today and it was loooooong over do.
if there is anything i can share with you it would be to "treat" yourself. and not with the holiday tomorrow! i don't mean treat yourself to have baskets of chocolate from the easter bunny i mean with some DYI spa and relaxtion!
with short notice you may not able to book a massage today but read these tips from SELF magazine and give them a try and treat yourself to some homemade R & R :)
have a happy rest of your weekend dolls :)

it's 5 o'clock somewhere!
by urban dictionary definition happy hour is : "where the worst selling and nastiest tasting alcoholic beverages are sold for half price, to a bunch of alcoholics too drunk to notice."
to that i say, BULLSH!T.
here the story goes.... about a month ago - i was given a random day off ( shocker! ), my gal pals were on spring break and we had several options of what to do with our time. would it be the movies, lounging around watching a law & order marathon, hiking, going shopping or going to happy hour? so one thing led to another - eww no, not that. get your mind out of the gutter!

we went to the hour of happy - i am almost ashamed to admit but this had been my first official experience. and unbeknown-st to me it was the greatest effing day of my week and for many weeks to come! sometimes around 4pm, while sitting at my desk, i foam at the mouth thinking about how marvelous a margarita would be. whoops! perhaps that isn't normal but thats my cross to bare!
now i'll be honest, with the shenanigans i'd be dealing with at work, that day was liable to be a "give my keys to the bartender and call my boyfriend to come pick me up" kinda experience! about an hour before hand i went shopping - per usual, i spent an obscene amount of money. so there was NO way, that my "impulsive behavior" was just going to disappear. and so we truck on...
i arrive to this glorious festival and the place is seemingly mobbed. and of course in traditional stuck up fashion, i gasp - uh hello, i'm in awe at all the crazy bitches who are drinking in the middle of the day! however i can't - and won't critize, i am now.... one of THEM. < 3
the were some barriers and i will admit they aren't a "real" problem at all, however this sort of debauchery lasted waaaaaaaaaaaaaay longer then an hour. this can't be LEGAL. and like i said, impulsivity could strike at any moment and with the group i was with - dancing on the bar and running down rt. 9 topless was practically on the menu along side the half price appetizers. according to wikipedia, happy hour is slang for a scheduled entertainment period. and by god, was that the most entertaining day of my "typical" work week.
now before people go into uproar and say that i condone binge drinking... you're WRONG, thats what college was for. a nice cocktail mid day, really gets you loose and feeling lovely! in fact the creative juices DO flow better when your mind is free! if that isn't in a text book - then i'll be writing one soon! i know everyone has their own idea of a happy hour, but i've got to admit that almost dare devil aspect of drinking mid day NOT out of a solo cup in a backyard somewhere really had my attention and perhaps my membership consideration!
i'm sad to report since that time i have not gone back, my ridiculous schedule just won't allow it. but i hope you all have stories and comments to share with us about your happy hours and where we can find the BEST ONES!
